‍The NimbusPC Solution: A Secure and Strategic Migration

NimbusPC proposed a comprehensive project focused on a smooth and secure migration to a direct Microsoft 365 environment.  The core strategy involved taking full ownership of the domain register account and current Office 365 tenant.  This proactive approach ensured that GoDaddy's support services could not inadvertently delete any mailboxes, accounts, or the tenant itself during the license cancellation process.   

To further mitigate any risk of data loss, NimbusPC implemented a preventive backup process using a robust and complete backup solution.  While the migration process was anticipated to be seamless with a high probability of success (99.99%), this backup provided an extra layer of security and peace of mind for MD Staffing Solutions.   

NimbusPC presented the compelling benefits of migrating to Exchange services running directly from Microsoft.  This included access to enhanced collaboration and security features, which ultimately convinced MD Staffing Solutions to move not only their main organization but also all their subdivision businesses.   

Technical Approach: Defederation for Optimal Control

NimbusPC employed the preferred method of defederating the GoDaddy 365 tenants to regular Microsoft 365 tenants.  This involved a series of carefully executed steps to ensure a controlled and efficient transition:  

1. Administrative Access: Setting one of the accounts in GoDaddy as an administrator account.
2. ‍Tenant Access Verification: Signing into the tenant to check access to the admin center.
3. ‍Azure Portal Access: Going to portal.azure.com and signing in with the administrator account.
4. ‍Domain Identification: Navigating to Entity, Custom domains, and identifying the federated domain that matched the target domain.    ‍
5. Admin Password Reset: Going to users and resetting the default admin password.    ‍
6. Password Update: Setting or updating the password.    ‍
7. Microsoft Tenant Access: Accessing the Microsoft Tenant admin center with Global Admin credentials.    ‍
8. Domain and Partner Verification: Opening PowerShell with Administrator rights and checking the domain and partner relationship.   

This meticulous process ensured a smooth transfer of control and minimized potential disruptions.

• Enhanced Security and Management: The environment was centralized by adding devices to Microsoft Entra ID for remote workers.  This provided enhanced security regardless of employee location while also improving the end-user experience with single sign-on, autopilot profiles, and Entra Intune policies.
